Our Road to Accident-free Driving
Vehicle safety is one of our core areas of expertise, as well as a central component of our product strategy. No other manufacturer in the world invests more in the development of life-saving safety systems than we do. For more than 60 years, the developments at Daimler have led the way worldwide in safety for passenger cars, trucks, vans, and buses. We regard our commitment to enhancing road safety as an expression of our sense of responsibility toward society that is in the interest of all road users. That’s why we are transforming our “Road to Accidentfree Driving” into reality step by step. For example, the independent European safety association Euro NCAP recognized the Mercedes-Benz brand with two Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards for its PRE-SAFE®occupant protection system and PRE-SAFE® brake assistance system in 2010.
Mercedes-Benz Cars’ integral safety philosophy defines safety as a holistic goal that involves much more than meeting legal requirements and successfully completing standardized crash tests. This philosophy focuses on four safety-critical phases:
- Prevention: Safe driving, timely warnings and assistance.
- Response: In case of danger, response with PRE-SAFE®
- Protection: In case of accidents, appropriate protection.
- Rescue: After an accident, mitigation of consequences and swift assistance.
As part of a safety concept that is as comprehensive as possible, we make available to rescue services a range of specific information about our vehicles and their safety systems. The continually updated documents provide a clear and detailed overview of all rescue-related information for the passenger vehicle models of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, and smart. The Guideline for Rescue Services Passenger Cars can be downloaded from the Internet free of charge in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese.

The Guideline allows rescue services to learn in advance about the special features of state-of-the-art vehicle models. Many fire departments have saved the Guideline on their emergency rescue laptops, enabling them to call up the necessary information while driving to the site of an accident.
Rescue cards (PDF , ca. 14 MB)
Besides the Guideline for Rescue Services, Mercedes-Benz is now also offering rescue cards that provide condensed information for many models and production series. Vehicle owners and emergency rescue teams can download the cards from the Internet free of charge.
Quick response times are a must during emergencies. That’s why we provide rescue services with detailed information about our vehicles and safety systems in several languages. Since special knowledge is required for the quick and professional recovery and towing of commercial vehicles, we also provide guidelines for these services in several languages.
